It always makes me laugh when people talk about how "courageous" and "Christian" Budde is.
She chose to chastise Trump publicly, which is at least counterproductive. You don't get people to listen to you by attempting public humiliation.
Moreover, she hid behind the pulpit. She chose to attack Trump in a way that didn't allow him to respond. Trump couldn't very well stand up and start responding to her. That would have been an egregious breach of decorum. So, basically, she had a captive target who was not allowed to defend himself.
And believe me, he could have. As it happens, he is the first President to appoint a gay man, Richard Grenell, to a cabinet level position. He allowed a gay couple to be married in Mar-A-Lago. And while in Trump's cabinet, Grenell launched the first global initiative to end the criminalization of homosexuality, making Trump the first and only President to work toward decriminalizing homosexuality worldwide.
And he is also the only President who actually entered office in support of gay marriage. When Obama entered office, both he and Biden were opposed to gay marriage, although Obama later stated his position on the subject was "evolving." I note that his evolution was conveniently timed for when, for the first time in history, the majority of Americans actually supported gay marriage.
Trump, by contrast, went into office supporting gay marriage. Something neither Obama nor Biden can claim.
Budde does not speak for me. I find her neither courageous nor Christian. And if gay people are in fear for their lives because of Trump, they simply haven't been paying attention.
